After working with search engine algorithms I found out the most important ranking factors for any search engine to rank you higher. The basic algorithm of any search engine never changes a lot. According to me, Search engine optimisation is optimising your website and content such that letting the search engine know your website is the best result to display for the related search terms ( your keywords).  

The factors i will discuss here are based on my own technique knows as the “Google Sky Ranker“ and every new blogger must learn SEO basics which writing the blogs or creating a website.

SEO is distributed in two types ie ON page SEO and OFF page SEO. Both of them have 60% and 40% importance respectively while ranking. This article will cover the basics of on page seo.

ON Page SEO factors

1. Title tag 

Title tag is the most big and highlighted text in the search results and it can gain attraction of the visitor/customer.

Rules to write title tag

a) Never stuff keywords to your title include a keyword but it should not look like stuffed. You can use your primary keyword in the start and complete it with a sentence making sense or covering one more keyword.

b) title length must be 70 characters including spaces (sometimes you can extend it but I don’t suggest to add more than 70 characters)

c) never leave space before and after your title tag

Wrong way : <title> Your Blog Title </title>

Best way : <title>Your Blog Title</title>

2. Meta Description 

Google displays a small snippet in the the search results below your title that’s your meta description.

Rules to Write meta description

a) Maximum length should not increase more than 300 characters including spaces. ( Minimum : 160 characters )

b) Include your targeted keywords in description will increase your chance to rank higher. ( do not stuff keywords )

3. H1 tag

Google identifies your content with headings. The most relevant headings and the paragraph below it can be suggested by google snippet in the top ( big and highlighted ). H1 is the most relevant heading of your article followed by h2 to h6 with reducing importance.

Rules to write h1 tag

a) Insert Targeted keyword to H1. ( You can also write h1 tag combined with the keyword. )

eg. your targeted keyword is “SEO services” you can write your article in following ways.

i) <h1>SEO Service</h1>

ii) <h1>Our SEO Service</h1>

iii) <h1>SEO Service by TechieTalk</h1>

And so on here you have your keyword in H1.

b) Do not write title tag more than 100 Characters 

c) do not use more than one h1 tag in the content but instead use h2, h3 , h4.

4. Url structure 

having a good url structure helps you a lot in getting rankings.

Rules to write url

a) length of url should not contain more than 100 characters for business websites or service type websites 

b) urls must contain your primary keyword or you can use other target ed keyword not mentioned in title tag.

c) all urls should follow a particular pattern which will help you in rankings (specially when you are targeting international customers)

5. Image optimization

Images always impact your page speed score. So always optimize them by compressing images.

But compressing team don’t make them search engine friendly. Google cannot read the images hence we need to add a alt attribute to the images and a title to the images.

Rules to write alt attribute

a) alt text must be in sentence form and must include keyword 

b) do not repeat alt attribute on the page

c) alt text should not exceed 100 characters 

6. Content of the page

The content is the most important factor for on page seo optimisation 

Rules to follow

a) content must be at least 800 words. (More is better)

b) never copy content from anywhere it must be 100% unique 

c) Maintain the keyword density of 1% (can be extended to 2.5).

7. Interlinking and External links

This is the best thing to increase PR (page rank) of your website. If any relevant content on your website comes on the page you can simply link the word to that page on website (interlinks) or others website (external links). Interlinks help google to crawl other pages as well as can help engaging customers for longer time on your website.

Your page have at least one internal link and external link ( not compulsory). Normal website should not have more than 100 links on one page.

8. Sitemap

There are 2 types of sitemaps that helps google to know the structure of your website and let it crawl all your pages.

i) XML sitemap

ii) HTML sitemap

You can easily generate one with free sitemap generator.

9. Page Speed

For good SEO your website must load at at speed of light. Google follows lighthouse scoring guide for checking the speed of your website. you can get good suggestions with free tools such us gtmetrix.com.
